How to choose a breastfeeding pump?

Being a mum with a little bub in the NICU I had no idea what I was looking for in a pump, but I needed one quickly as bub wasn't latching well and I wasn't ready to give up on breastfeeding so soon! Having used a wired pump in the hospital, the hospital staff recommended a wired pump. What this meant is that I spent approximately 8 times a day expressing, that is 4 hours of each day gone. In those 4 hours I missed out on feeding bub the bottle top-up, cuddles and sleep.

Did I really have a spare 4 hours a day for expressing? Isn't being a mum to a newborn exciting but busy enough as it is? I was exhausted and almost felt like giving up on breastfeeding, but I was well aware of the benefits of breastmilk. That is when I looked into what I could be doing differently to make this work. Wearable pumps!

I tried several wearable pumps (some of the big names) but found that several were painful and/or resulted in low milk output, quite discouraging to a sleep-deprived FTM. I decided to reach out to manufacturers to see if it would be possible to have a better experience with a wearable pump: an electric wearable pump that has just as much suction as my popular wired pump, that is yet still gentle and comfortable to wear in a bra, so I could be doing other things (eg comforting bub or making a meal). That is how the MumsWay Luxe pump was born.

The MumsWay Luxe has a gentle massage setting for those (early) days when nipples may be sore and/or when you experience a clogged duct. It is also very discreet so it is hard to notice when you are expressing in public (e.g., when taking the dog for a walk or when you are working in a shared open office).

I tested the MumsWay Luxe pump over the last 6 months and am still so grateful. It allowed me to continue my breastfeeding journey. I get some extra sleep because I can now express while doing other things (eg feeding bub, catching up with the laundry, or simply enjoying breakfast).

I spend more time with bub (expressing while playing with bub), and have the occasional few hours for other things (e.g., work meeting) while bub can bond with dad. I feel that I am being a better mum because of this.

Other mums I met along the way were looking for an affordable wearable pump for the occasional pumping session, so they could have a few hours to themselves (e.g., gym, hairdresser, casual work session) without having to worry about bub (whilst giving dad the opportunity to thrive). Some were annoyed with the cheaper wired pumps, others were considering a more expensive pump but could not justify the expense and/or how they could possibly express using a wired pump with an already on-the-move bub. The MumsWay Forte is specifically designed for those mums in mind, who need an affordable wearable pump while not compromising on suction and time with bub.

So ask yourself, what do I need in a pump? Is affordability your main criteria, order the MumsWay Forte today! If comfort, optimised milk output, and discreteness are important to you, choose the MumsWay Luxe. MumsWay pumps will enhance your breastfeeding journey. With MumsWay being located in Australia with local stock available, shipping is fast (and free when ordering a pump).

At the time of writing this (28th of Dec 2023) there is currently The End of Year Special on, offering $30 back on the Luxe (T&Cs apply).
